Say “Plus One” for marriage equality

Will 2014 be the year love wins in Wisconsin?

Seventeen U.S. states and the District of Columbia have already legalized same-sex marriage, with constitutional bans being challenged or overturned in additional states everyday.  And now, finally, Wisconsin might join the list!

ETpLR4e9On February 3, the ACLU of Wisconsin filed a federal lawsuit against the same-sex marriage ban in our state, which not only bans marriage equality, but penalizes out-of-state same-sex marriages as a crime punishable by up to nine months in prison and a $10,000 fine.  Read the ACLU press release here.

Meet the couples who are furiously fighting for YOUR freedom to marry.

PrideFest Milwaukee believes strongly in achieving marriage equality for all Wisconsin citizens.

That’s why we have selected the ACLU of Wisconsin as the beneficiary of our 2014 Plus One Campaign.   Ticketholders will have the option of saying “plus one” at the gates to donate an extra $1 directly to the ACLU.

While $1 may not seem like much, the combined power of the PrideFest Milwaukee community — almost 30,000 annual visitors — can truly make a difference and change our world.  We ask that all visitors consider the power of their extra dollars.   Additional donations may be made online at the ACLU of Wisconsin website.

BONUS: On April 4, Diamond Nexus; one of the largest online, lab-created engagement jewelers in the country; announced its official sponsorship of PrideFest Milwaukee, and its partnership with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Wisconsin Foundation in support of marriage equality. Diamond Nexus has committed to match donated dollars up to $10,000 to support the state effort.  Read the official Diamond Nexus press release.

As a sponsor of PrideFest Milwaukee, Diamond Nexus will also be sponsoring a celebratory commitment ceremony to be held during the June festival for couples, which will honor the eight Wisconsin couples named in the ACLU of Wisconsin Foundation lawsuit.  Diamond Nexus is also unveiling its “Love Equally” collection, a unique collection of rings designed for the LGBT community.
