MILWAUKEE'S PRIDEFEST CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF GAY PRIDE JUNE 8, 9 & 10th

MILWAUKEE, WI - PrideFest kicks off the lakefront festival season June 8, 9 & 10th with an all-star entertainment lineup celebrating 20 years of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) pride in Milwaukee. PrideFest is held annually at the Henry Maier Festival Park (Summerfest) on Milwaukee's lakefront.

Over 60 performances are scheduled on five stages, including full-length performances by comedian Kathy Griffin (Friday), eight-time Grammy Award winner Chaka Khan (Saturday), and iconic rockers Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (Sunday). The festival also features performances by many independent music favorites, including Catie Curtis and Rachael Sage and the finals of the weeks-long Pride Idol amateur singing competition. The winner will open for Joan Jett and the Blackhearts on Sunday, June 10th.

"PrideFest's 20th anniversary is a momentous occasion for the LGBT community, and we wanted to celebrate with a unique and notable lineup of performances and activities," said Scott Gunkel, PrideFest Board President.

"This year's festival features a music and comedy lover's showcase of established and up-and-coming performers," said Paul Williams, PrideFest Communications Director. "We put a premium on acts who will lead the celebration through their performances and not just be background music for the party."

PrideFest also offers educational activities and over 150 food, shopping and organizational vendors. The full entertainment and activity lineup is available at www.pridefest.com.

PrideFest is Wisconsin's largest LGBT event, and this year's entertainment lineup is the biggest LGBT Pride entertainment lineup in the nation. There are over 50 annual Pride events nationwide, including Los Angeles, New York City and Chicago.

PrideFest dates back to a series of public gay pride events held in 1988, including a softball tournament and picnic at Mitchell Park, a formal ball, town hall meeting with elected officials and a film festival. PrideFest moved to the Maier Festival Grounds in 1996.
