MILWAUKEE, WI - After setting attendance records with 23,839 people
entering the gates June 9 - 11, PrideFest contributed over $20,000
to LGBT community groups and two tons of canned food donations to the
AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin. "We are proud to be able to provide this support back to many organizations
in the LGBT community," said Scott Gunkel, PrideFest President.
The largest of the donations was made to Fair Wisconsin, the statewide
coalition that is working to defeat the constitutional amendment to ban
civil unions. Fair Wisconsin received $10,000 based on festival attendance
Friday, June 9th. PrideFest had committed $2 for every person on the grounds
up to $10,000.
An additional $9,675 in donations were made directly to 12 other groups
that provided volunteers to staff booths at the festival."It's an
arrangement that benefits both the festival and the LGBT-serving organizations.
These groups use the money to fund their activities throughout the year,"
said Gunkel.
The festival also facilitated the donation of two tons of canned goods
to the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin's food pantry. PrideFest provided
free entrance to patrons who donated canned goods.
The mission of PrideFest is to advocate, celebrate and educate the general
community and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community
with regard to all aspects of LGBT culture. |
