History Exhibit

The History Exhibit at PrideFest empowers people to see their lives as chapters in a long, queer story that will never end.

Gender and sexuality diversity have always been part of the fabric of life in Wisconsin. The PrideFest History Exhibit benefits the LGBTQ community (as well as people who don’t identify as LGBT) by serving as a source of information to better understand our contributions and history.

The History Exhibit is a permanent archive built on efforts going as far back as 2003.  In 2018, Milwaukee Pride became the custodial steward of the Wisconsin LGBTQ History Project, a labor of love founded by Don Schwamb. Michail Takach and Vincent Tripi now serve as curators for the History Project.

The History Exhibit features the ever-popular “Milwaukee LGBTQ History Timeline”, an interactive exhibit outlining, year by year, landmark events in local history.
