Gone But Not Forgotten line celebrates LGBTQ landmarks

pridemerch_pridefestmilwaukeePrideFest Milwaukee is bringing beloved bars back to life — with a limited edition T-shirt line supporting the Milwaukee Pride Parade.

Long before there was a PrideFest Milwaukee, local bars created culture and community for Milwaukee’s LGBTQ people.

The Wisconsin LGBTQ History Project documents “known” gathering places as early as 1928, when the St. Charles Hotel hosted illegal gin parties for the gay men and lesbian women of the era during Prohibition.   By the time of the Stonewall Riots of 1969, over three dozen “gay bars” had opened in Milwaukee, driving awareness, change and acceptance that continues at today’s surviving seven LGBTQ owned-and-operated establishments.

This year, we are honoring our pioneers by bringing some favorite bygone brands back to life!

Our Pride Shop will be selling the Gone But Not Forgotten line, a limited edition run of T-shirts honoring seven legendary landmarks from Milwaukee LGBTQ history, including:

T-shirts will be sold in VERY limited quantities, and only at PrideFest 2018, so be sure to get yours early this year!  Shirts will be available in sizes S-XXL at the Pride Shop, located just inside the Main Gates.  Shirts will be sold for just $15 each.

All proceeds will be donated to the Milwaukee Pride Parade, our neighborhood partner in creating an exceptional pride weekend, each and every year.   Unfortunately, we are unable to offer a mail order service at this time.

If the Gone But Not Forgotten line is a successful fundraiser, additional brands will be researched and cleared for reproduction at PrideFest 2019.

We extend our gratitude to Si Smits of Boot Camp for not only allowing us to resurrect the bar’s logo, but for his decades of generosity and leadership in the local LGBTQ community.

Many thanks to graphic designer Adrian Palomo, who carefully restored these logos from hand-drawn advertisements in 40+ year old “bar rags.”   Thank you to Peter Nys of PN Promotions for producing this year’s collection, as well as the PrideFest 2018 souvenir tshirt.
