Give Plus One for LGBTQ youth at PrideFest

The Milwaukee Pride Board of Directors has named GSAFE as the recipient of the 2017 PrideFest Plus One campaign.

Each year, Milwaukee Pride, Inc. designates one local LGBTQ-supporting non-profit as our annual PrideFest Plus One beneficiary. PrideFest ticketholders are invited to donate a tax-deductible gift of $1 – or any dollar amount – at our online and festival box offices.

In return, Milwaukee Pride, Inc. confirms a sponsor who will match all dollars donated to increase community reach and impact.

Past recipients have included The Healing Center, Pathfinders Q*Blok, and the ACLU of Wisconsin.

“We are committed to cultivating the next generation of Wisconsin’s LGBTQ leadership,” said Michail Takach, vice president of Milwaukee Pride, Inc. “Since our 501c3 incorporation, we have been investing in organizations that stabilize, empower, educate and advance LGBTQ youth to achieve their best selves in the world.”

gsafe_milwaukeepride“GSAFE, as the state’s leading advocate for LGBTQ youth in academic settings, envisions a world where all young adults can thrive. No matter what challenges lie ahead, GSAFE is devoted to driving positive change.”

GSAFE, formerly known as Gay Straight Alliance For Safe Schools, was founded in 1991.  The organization is committed to developing LGBTQ student leadership, supporting Wisconsin gay-straight alliances, training educational staff, advancing educational justice, advocating for public policy, and deepening racial, gender, trans and social justice.

“We are honored and humbled to be this year’s PrideFest Plus One recipient,” said Brian Juchems, GSAFE’s senior director of education and policy. “All proceeds will help us continue our work to build the leadership of LGBTQ middle and high school students through youth leadership events and camps.”

“This funding allows us to continue our work with schools and districts, to not only pass, but implement policy that supports and includes transgender and non-binary students.  We couldn’t be more grateful!”

A few dollars might not seem like much to you.  But to LGBTQ youth struggling to thrive in today’s America, your dollars will mean the world.  Give Plus One at the online and gate box offices at PrideFest 2017!
